3 Ways to Style Gingham for Fall
Deemed a wardrobe essential by pretty much every fashion expert in the world, a button-up is a piece that never goes out of style and therefore will last you a lifetime. It is the perfect style to strike a balance between casual and polished – taking you from work to weekend effortlessly. Add in versatile prints + washes on top and you’ve got yourself outfits for days!
Unfortunately, for most tall women it is hard to find a button up fit that flatters your body while also feeling comfortable and functional. As we all know, there is always always always the issue of sleeve length. That awkward feeling of having to either A) roll the sleeve back to your elbow or B) being forced to wear a jacket over the top to mask the fact that most of your forearm is exposed. Oh, the struggle.
Then there’s that compromise on sizing. So many tall girls settle for sizing up from their normal simply for body length – which creates a less desired boxy silhouette versus a nice tailored one.
Oh, and the biggest issue with button ups? Feeling like you can comfortably move / do life in them without ripping a seam under the arm or across the back. A ton of women have issues with fit in the bust (you know that weird gaping effect that it can have on the buttons), and/or issues with fit across the back and shoulders, creating that pulling feeling underneath the arm.
Taking all of these flaws into consideration, we’ve designed some new button-ups for our fall collection that solve these fit issues – especially the ones that have plagued tall women for years.
Amalli Talli Button-Up Design Features include:
- Extra long sleeves (we’ve never left you hanging here)
- A feminine, tailored silhouette
- More room in the shoulders
- A subtle pleat in the back, which helps fit issues in the bust + also helps you move more comfortably
Now that we’ve tackled the fit, let’s talk about the styling! One of our favorite prints for every season is gingham, so you know we had to go there. It’s a great ‘neutral’ print just like stripes – which makes it extremely versatile no matter what time of year it is. But we want to show you just how much you could wear it this fall, so we’ve created three different looks for you to replicate using other tall girl friendly pieces from our fall line.
3 Ways to Wear Gingham This Fall:
My first look is the most preppy and polished of them all. I paired our gingham button up under a contrasting tan faux leather jacket with black skinny jeans and camel colored mules on the bottom. I can’t believe this is happening, but I’m showing you a legit sneak peek of two very amazing pieces yet to come. This faux leather jacket has been one of the most requested pieces from our customers behind our tall utility jacket, which sold out in about four hours last month (as did our tall knit moto jacket). If you want to ensure that you don’t miss out on this tall faux leather jacket, then I highly suggest joining our email list (you can sign up on the very bottom of our website homepage). I’m guessing it’s going to go fast because it’s absolutely amazing, but we’ll share all of those details with you later. On top of that, we’ll also be releasing these black wash skinny jeans with a button fly. They are coming in two extra long inseams of course (an ideal find for those of you with a 36”+ inseam) and they feel like a freaking dream. *That feeling when you dress from head to toe in clothes designed for tall girls, though.*
My second look is more casual than the first, but still very chic and polished. I paired our gingham button up under a cozy cardigan and added our faux leather leggings on the bottom with a pair of over the knee boots. Oops, I did it again – another sneak peek slipped out! This cozy cardigan is coming in two colors and the fabric is unreal soft. The good news is, our tall faux leather leggings are online now and ready to be shipped right to your doorstep. If you want all of the details on these bad boys (including how they compare to the Spanx faux leather leggings), you should head to our Instagram page and check out the ‘LEGGINGS’ story highlight.
My third and final look is the edgiest (and maybe coolest?) of them all! I paired our gingham button up with our tall knit moto jacket, our Blakely Skinny Jeans and these gorgeous boots from Otto + Ivy (yes, the owner Laura specifically designs shoes for tall girls). We’re bringing back this moto jacket for the 3rd time in October after selling out of it almost immediately last month. Another good reason to get on our email list!
We’re so excited for you to get your hands on this button-up and all of the other pieces coming in for fall. As always, this entire line is designed by us (Amy + Alli, two tall sisters), because we understand the need for a better fit in a more stylish + trendy way. Let us know what you think of these looks and these upcoming arrivals on our Instagram page!
