How To Find a Romper or Jumpsuit That Fits If You Have a Long Torso

Have you experienced any of the following fit issues when you’ve tried on rompers or jumpsuits?

  • A feeling of being “cut off” in the crotch and bum region
  • Waist seam hits uncomfortably high
  • Too tight under the arms
  • Too short in the legs

If you answered yes to one or more of these, there’s a good chance you have a longer than average torso!

There’s no doubt that having a long torso can making shopping for rompers and jumpsuits much more challenging, but it doesn’t have to be impossible. You just have to know what to look for!

Here is my advice on how to find a romper or jumpsuit that fits if you have a long torso:

1) Know Your Measurements

First and foremost, you will never have any luck shopping for anything (especially online) if you don’t know what your own measurements are. When it comes to shopping for rompers and jumpsuits, knowing your torso measurement is of the utmost importance.

How to take your torso measurement:

Grab a fabric tape measure. Pick a shoulder and put the end of the tape measure at the very top of that shoulder, where the strap of a romper or jumpsuit would hit. Angle the end down towards the middle of your body. Measure down to where the crotch seam of your shorts or pants would hit. This is your number! For example, I am 5’10” and my torso measurement is 33.5”.

#2) When in doubt, ask for those critical measurements

Now that you know your own torso measurement, use it to your advantage to help make better purchasing decisions! Tall girls have come to know and trust that we will always provide important measurements (like torso length) for them on our size charts, but not every retailer has that much detail openly available. If you don’t see these measurements listed on their product page, you should definitely ask! This is a great way to save yourself not only time, but also shipping and return fees. Retailers should be able to provide this information for you. If they can’t or are unwilling to, I would say that’s a red flag and you should move forward in your shopping quest!

#3) Look for "tall" or "long torso" in the product description

This might seem obvious, but you should be searching for brands that design these pieces specifically for your body type. At Amalli Talli, we carry both tall rompers and jumpsuits that accommodate long torsos and long legs alike.

With that being said, not all retailers design their products the same way. You should be aware of what the label really means – a “tall” jumpsuit or romper *could* mean they added some length to the bottom half of the romper (the shorts and/or pants) without adjusting the torso/body region. I’ve run into this plenty of times! To avoid this, make sure you go back to step #1 and #2, and also look for “long torso” in the product description.

#4) Look for design elements that help adjust the fit

If you are comparing your torso measurements to the size chart and have some reservations, you can always look for certain design elements to help ease your fears! For example, adjustable and/or tie straps are a way to easily adjust the length to fit your torso correctly and comfortably. Not to mention, it can relieve that ‘too tight under the arm’ feeling. It’s also typically very helpful if the item has a *little bit* of a drop crotch to it. It doesn’t have to resemble like those crazy diaper looking jumpsuits by any means – but having the crotch seam dropped just a tich helps relieve that feeling of being cut off!
