Why We Stopped Settling for “Close Enough”: Our Story as Tall Women

We got tired of settling — so we started Amalli Talli

For most of our lives, finding clothes that actually fit felt like a never-ending compromise.

Too-short sleeves. Pants that hovered above our ankles. Dresses that looked like long tops. The message from the fashion industry was loud and clear: if you're tall, you're supposed to settle.

And for a long time, we did.

The Tall Girl Struggle Is Real

One of my earliest memories of really feeling it? I (Amy, the tallest sister) needed khaki pants for a school event in middle school. We went to the mall, hoping to find something in the girls' or women’s section. But nothing fit. Every pair was embarrassingly short. Eventually, the sales associate suggested bringing me options from the men's department. I still remember standing in that dressing room, sobbing — because I just wanted something that felt like me, not a compromise.

Or how about winter? We never owned a coat with sleeves that actually reached my wrists. Every jacket left me tugging and pulling, layering hoodies underneath for warmth — but never for style.

If you're tall, chances are you've got a story like this too. Maybe dozens.

Nothing in the women’s section fit. The men’s department was the backup plan.

Our "Enough Is Enough" Moment

The turning point came when I was venting about this — again — and our dad (who’s an entrepreneur) just looked at me and said, "You should just do it."

We were sitting in a restaurant booth, listing out all the problems we’d run into as tall women shopping for clothes. And he was so matter-of-fact about it:

"You know what’s wrong. You could figure out how to do it right."

That conversation planted a seed. We didn’t jump in overnight. We spent three years researching, learning the industry, studying patterns, and deciding how we would do it differently — if we ever took the leap.

Eventually, we did.  And Amalli Talli was born.

Tested on 5’10” and 6’4” — because one tall size doesn’t fit all.

Why Amalli Talli Is Different

We’re tall women designing for tall women. And that makes all the difference.

Other brands? They take a standard pattern, add two inches, and call it a day. But tall bodies are more than just longer — they’re proportional. Longer legs, longer torsos, wider shoulders. Every piece of the puzzle matters when you’re designing tall clothing that actually fits.

Here’s how we do it differently:

  • We design for two heights: Every style is tested on both of us — one of us is 5’10”, the other 6’4”. If it doesn’t work on both, we make two versions.

  • We adjust every part of the pattern: Inseam, rise, sleeve length, shoulder width — all of it. We don’t just add length and hope for the best.

  • We test on real tall bodies, not just fit models. If we wouldn’t wear it ourselves, we don’t sell it.

  • We design for fun, not just function: Tall girls deserve cute clothes too — so we prioritize color, prints, and personal style. This isn’t designed by men in a boardroom — it’s created by women who live it every day.

Clothing for Tall Girls — Without Compromise

The truth is: we were never asking for anything outrageous. We just wanted jeans that reached our ankles, jackets with sleeves that fit, and dresses that didn’t feel like tunics. We wanted to feel confident in what we wore — not self-conscious.

So no, we’re not settling anymore. And if you’re reading this, maybe you’re ready to stop too.

Because once you’ve experienced clothing that actually fits your body — made by tall women who get it — there’s no going back.
